Gum Health

Gum treatment also referred to as periodontics, is an important part of your overall dental health.

The gums provide the structure for the teeth, and any damage to the gums can put your smile at risk for excess tooth decay, loose teeth, and even complete tooth loss.

Fortunately, gum disease is both preventable and curable, with proper dental care.

With every dental examination and cleaning, we will inspect your gums for early signs of gum disease. If we do find damage to the gums, there are options available that can stop and even reverse the damage that's already been done.

Depending on the type and extent of damage, we may recommend one or more of the following options to treat gum disease:

  • More Frequent Scaling with the Hygienist
  • Gum surgery
  • Bone grafts

Scaling & Root Planing

A scaling and root planing procedure is a relatively simple cleaning procedure that is effective in treating most early-stage gum diseases.

The scale and root plane consists of gently cleaning underneath the gums, removing the harmful bacteria that cause harm to the gums. Using the Airflow equipment we will gently cleanse the tooth and into the gum pockets surrounding the tooth. This process will help remove sticky stubborn plaque that houses harmful bacteria with little to no discomfort versus traditional hand instruments. LEARN MORE.

Gum Surgery

Similar to the scale and root plane procedure, gum surgery at a dental specialist is designed to thoroughly clean beneath the gum line, preventing future gum disease.

Gum surgery differs from the scale and root plane procedure in that a greater area of the tooth root must be cleaned, which must be accessed surgically.

Bone & Gum Grafts

In some intermediate to advanced cases of gum disease, you may experience loss of gum and/or bone in the jaw. This can lead to a variety of problems including tooth loosening, tooth loss, injury to the jaw, and changes to your facial appearance.

In cases such as this, we may be able to perform gum and/or bone graft procedures to rebuild the affected area.

" What Our Patients Say About Us "

The friendliest staff I have ever had the privilege of encountering. Dr.Champney is not only extremely intelligent but he is patient, thorough and kind! I look forward to having a dental office I enjoy visiting.

As always, we had another great visit with Dr. Champney and his team. They have been taking care of my family for 8 years, and we'll never switch. Everyone is friendly, personable and are great with my kids, since they were little and now into their teens. Dr. Champney takes the time to do things right and makes sure we are comfortable at our visits. Would absolutely recommend.

I always dread deep cleaning but wow this was the most painless one I've ever had. The hygienist is super supportive and sensitive to needs. I would highly recommend this dental clinic.

We have been with Innisfail Family Dental from the time we moved here in 2010. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and Dr. Champney has always been thorough and honest with us. All of my children have had their wisdom teeth removed at the clinic and we have had zero complications. The office follows the dental fee guide and if we’ve ever had a concern with service or fees they were quick to come to a resolution. Keep up the great work!

Such a refreshing experience with Innisfail Family Dental. Everyone was so pleasant to deal with and Dr Champney took the time to sit with me and thoroughly go through all my X rays and questions I had. I felt so comfortable and heard. Thank you. My entire family will be going here.

100% recommend coming here. Excellent communication from everyone and extremely accommodating, even with a toddler and baby in tow. Very good and patient with children getting their teeth checked too! Was unlike any other dentist experience ever before, and felt truly listened to and had all their attention during the appointment.
